American Bobtail Cat - Country of origin - United States
This breed of cat is one of the new breeds and has appeared in the late 1960’s. The American Bobtail has a peculiar feature and that is the “bobbed” tail which in length is about one-third to one-half of normal tail length. There is a misconception that this breed is related to Japanese Bobtail but actually its not so.The American Bobtail is believed to be a cross breed of a bobcat and tabby cat. The Manx gene is considered to be responsible for the unusual tail. New and improved breeds in different colors and divisions are the result of modifications in the genes. Due to these changes, a better household pet with wild look features and sweet nature is produced. The International Cat Association recognized this cat in 1989 and was accepted for Championship competition in The Cat Fanciers Association, The International Cat Association and the American Cat Fanciers’ Association.
